2nd Favourites in Selling and Claiming races

People are not used to betting in sellers and claimers and tend to go with the flow and follow the favourite thus creating a false favourite, when in fact the second favourite is often the better bet.

You should back CD winners who are top weight in Claimers and Sellers at over 1 mile or greater, in most cases the owners have no intention of selling just of making some money to pay for the horses stabling for the next few months.

National Hunt 1st and 2nd Favourites

National hunt first and second favourites have a high win rate even more so in non handicaps and if the horse is a previous winner,

Recent Second

If you can find a race on the flat which is not a handicap and has a horse running that came second by less than 2 lengths last time it ran within the last four weeks then it stands a good chance of winning.

Top Weight

Bet on the top weight in handicap races when the horse is 6 years old or over ignoring apprentice allowances.

Back the favourite

Backing favourites on the flat can pay handsomely if you concentrate on fields of 7 runners or less, the horse should be clear favourite and less than 7/2 and have ran within the last 1 week also it should be a colt or gelding.

It is worth backing a 2 year old colt having his second start who lost on his first start and is second favourite in the betting.

Claiming Races

Bet on the second favourite if it is heavier than 9st and finished in the first two in recent starts but was well beaten last time out.
